| Bio | The winner of an Olympic gold medal in 1924, a member for three years of the American Davis Cup team, twice a doubles champion at Wimbledon, Frank Hunter was a man who wore success well and often on the tennis court. He was a terrific doubles player who earned most of his credits in that capacity, and yet he twice came within a single set of winning the U.S. National Championships in singles. In 1928, he lost a five-set final to Henri Cochet, and the following year he was beaten in another five-set showdown with Bill Tilden. |
