| Bio | She is an Australian tennis player. Gibson won her first major ITF Circuit title at the 2022 Playford International, in the doubles draw, partnering Alexandra Bozovic. Talia Gibson started playing tennis at the age of five and prefers hard courts. Since 2019, she has played on the ITF Junior World Tennis Tour and the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , where she has won three singles titles and four doubles titles. She was a finalist at the U12 National Grasscourt Championships in Adelaide 2016 and won the Australian Championships U14 singles title in December 2018. In 2019, Gibson competed at the Australian Open in junior singles and with partner Anastasia Berezov in junior doubles, but lost in both competitions in the first round. In 2020, she competed again at the Australian Open in junior singles and with partner Annerly Poulos in junior doubles. While she lost again in the first round in doubles, she was able to move into the second qualifying round with a win against Guillermina Grant, where she then lost 2-6, 5-7 to Ane Mintegi del Olmo. In January 2022, she received a wild card into the main draw at the $60,000 Bendigo International. But she lost in the first round to Hanna Chang in three sets with 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-7(1). After that, she also received a wildcard for the qualification of the Australian Open 2022, where she lost 6-4, 4-6, 1-6 against Arianne Hartono. In 2023, Gibson made her WTA Tour debut at the Hobart International as a wildcard entrant, losing to Tatjana Maria in the first round. She made her first appearance at a Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open, again as a wildcard, but lost in the first round to Clara Burel. In 2024, Gibson won back to back the ITF W75 singles titles at the Perth Tennis International, defeating Maddison Inglis in the final, and the following week at the Perth Tennis International 2, where she overcame Eri Shimizu in the championship match. In 2025, as a wildcard entrant at the Australian Open, Gibson secured her maiden major win and first against a player ranked in the WTA top-100, when she defeated world No. 94 Zeynep Sönmez in the first round. She lost in the second round to Paula Badosa. She qualified to make her debut at Wimbledon, but lost to Naomi Osaka in the first round. As a qualifier at Tennis in the Land, Gibson recorded her second WTA Tour win by defeating Greet Minnen in the first round, before losing to second seed Wang Xinyu in her next match. She was given a wildcard into the main-draw at the US Open, but lost to 28th seed Magdalena Fręch in the first round. |
